Aged Care Fees and Charges

 

The Basic Daily Fee is part of the resident's contribution toward their care. The fee is reviewed on the 20th March and 20th September each year in line with the CPI. The Age pension is also reviewed on these dates.

If you have assessable income above a threshold level you may be asked to pay a portion of that extra income as an additional Income Tested Fee.

It comes into effect on date of admission.

Accommodation Bond

The bond is like an interest free loan to the aged care facility while you are a resident there. The balance is refunded upon leaving.

The amount is negotiated between the facility and the resident. They must leave you a minimum amount of $40,500 when calculating the bond.

The facility retains $318 per month from the bond for a maximum of 5 years. Can be paid as a lump sum, periodic payment, or a combination of both.

Interest can be charged on unpaid portions at a maximum set rate set by the Government.

Accommodation Charge

Payable in a standard High Care facility instead of an Accommodation Bond. It is a daily rate set at entry and depends on asset level at that date.

Maximum rate is $32.38 per day.

Charged mostly in High care facilities in conjunction with an Accommodation Bond. Can also be charged in Low care facilities.

It provides for extra services such as wine with a meal or menu choices in meals. It does not mean an extra standard of care.

The amount varies from facility to facility and can range from $10 per day to $117 per day.
